Quite Disturbing, 4 young college age men, were chatting about pretending to be homeless to get money?
my college age daughter & I were having breakfast, at Perkins, in her college town & we over heard 4 college age men (almost bragging) to each other; discussing how they were dressed, what names they used, what parts of the city were better to get money... from helpful strangers..
they were dressed very well, nicely groomed. having large breakfasts.
2 hours later on my way out of town, there were those same 4 young men, plus a few others sitting on the streets of that college town, dirty clothes, mud or some kind of dirt substance on their faces...
yes, taking money & going up to people hands out....
how do you feel about that?

Sadly, that is more often the case than not. Panhandling is performance art. Most panhandlers are frauds, especially if they are working intersections in groups, or have a sign. To spot the posers, try offering them a sandwich or some other food you have in the car instead. Only the legitimate ones will take it.

I have heard of people doing this before. I don't give money to anyone, I can't afford to but that's beside the point. There is a real homeless man here in my small town, people help him out all the time from what I've seen he makes more in a day then I do, plus he is given a free meal and a bed at the homeless shelter each night.
Sadly I think that might have to be my retirement plan.

It's pretty low. Money can always be collected easily, especially when touching the emotional side of others (think KONY 2012). It's just a matter of morals.

Where I live, the majority of "homeless" people are scammers. It's very wrong, and it cheats the people who are really in need out of getting help because nobody trusts them anymore.

I see that so daily now it doesn't affect me anymore. Yes, it's low and pathetic and does make me angry, but there are far worse things than that.
Hopefully though, that type of life will catch up to them and they will be exposed.

It's sad they do so when there are genuine people who need the money and food. It's things like this that make my heart sink.

How much are they collecting, a few bucks, who cares. Mind your own business. If you saw them clean and well dressed, I doubt they are junkies.
