Sunshine and exercise work well for me, but I would describe my depression as mild. Studies have shown the prismatic rays of direct sunlight actually help grow new serotonin receptors, so even 15 minutes in the sun every day may help (OK to wear sunscreen, the important thing is to expose your eyeballs to the sun without staring at it), and exercise increases endorphins that just make you feel more upbeat.

Anxiety can often breed more depression, so get a couple of books about positive self-talk and meditation practices. Sometimes deep breathing and saying positive messages to yourself can make a big difference.

It is great to reach out, I am sorry you are feeling so terrible. Exercise can be helpful, as well as stretching.

Isolation tends to intensify the anxiety and depression, so try to talk to a trusted relative, friend, or school counselor. There are several help lines across the country that you can visit with as well. Therapy with a professional counselor can be very effective. You may also want to review the website www.yourlifeyourvoice.org. Hang in there.

I agree with dingding. Get sunshine and also ask your doctor to test your vitamin D level. You may be deficient and need to take a D3 supplement if you can't get enough sun. Deficiency causes feelings of depression, anxiety as well as many other health problems. You will feel so much better by raising your level if you are deficient.

exercise where you sweat helps to release the stress hormones in your body, which helps a lot with relieving anxiety. As for depression, surround yourself with positive people, and see a therapist. Cognitive psychotherapy helps significantly improve the quality of life for almost 98% of depressed people.
