Cheap gift ideas for a 5-7 year old?

I'm 16 and my high school is doing a gift drive for underprivileged children. I need to get a gift for a 5-7 year old. I don't know the gender of the child, and there's a 20$ limit.

I've never really spent time around young children before, so I have absolutely no idea what to get him/her.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

    For the full 20 dollars I too recommend legos

    If its several things, smaller box of legos, board games, bubbles, crayons, ball

    If it's supposed to be just a single gift, then Lego sets are usually popular with both genders - the age recommendations are printed on the boxes and there are some that are under $20.

    If it can be a box with several small gifts, then maybe some crayons and paper, a children's book, a puzzle... if you go to a toy store, you should be able to find plenty of things at a variety of prices that are recommended for 5-7s.
