Are all nintendo 3DS's the same thing?
I ask because I need to buy one for Christmas, and there appear to have several different release dates and sizes, so I want to make sure I am getting the best one. (I am NOT talking about the 2DS or the XL, just the 3DS.)

Minus the 3DS XL and 2DS then the consoles themselves are the same. The difference is the color choices and sometimes you can get a special edition that has a special overlay on it, take example the Zelda 3DS that came out closer to the launch.

The 3ds come with different colors outside of that there is no difference in the colors of each model. Now the XL models come with a bigger screen and longer battery life, while the 2ds skips the 3d screen and doesn't fold but is the budget model for the 3ds.

except for the xl, which only has a bigger screen and better battery life, yes. they just come in different colours and look different. same thing tho.
