What makes a successful sci fi book?

I wrote a book, I have been working on it for 4 years. I posted it on Deviantart, but it's not very successful...I've advertised it, and mentioned it many times. Even if I fix mistakes it still is not enough. What makes books like Jurassic Park, the Halo novels, Hunger Games popular?

Sometimes it reflects life, people identify with it without really knowing why.

Try this. There is the first "district" where the rich, well fed, spoiled rulers live. Everyone else lives in poorer districts and have to pay a lot of taxes, do not have so much food and never really get to make any of the major decisions. The people are unhappy and it just takes a little thing to get a rebellion started.

Now, that may sound like the Hunger Games. But what if I said the first "District" was the District of Columbia and all the other districts are the states? Don't you think those in Washington getting to make all the decisions are somehow getting rich, appear well fed and are spoiled? Don't you think the people in the rest of the states are just getting fed up with all the stuff that is coming out of The District? Don't you think that it will just take a little push to start a rebellion?

you have to give the reader more questions. like once they think they finally figured the problem out surprise them and give them an even bigger and more questions so they want to continue reading to figure it out. Also describe a lot of your surroundings in detail.
