Disabling Wireless on IP provided Router?
I currently have a rather crappy wireless router/modem combo from Windscrew! (Windstream) It works decently well on the first floor of my new apartment but doesn't work hardly at all on the second floor bedroom at the back of the unit. My room. So I was considering options and was wondering if disabling wireless on the Windscrew router/modem and buying my own router would help the situation at all.

yes. it could. 802.11ac reaches a long long way, but it's expensive.
if you can disable the wireless on the gateway, do that and use it with a router (or remove the antennas if external).
netgear r7000 and these adapters.
