I currently have a rather crappy wireless router/modem combo from Windscrew! (Windstream) It works decently well on the first floor of my new apartment but doesn't work hardly at all on the second floor bedroom at the back of the unit. My room. So I was considering options and was wondering if disabling wireless on the Windscrew router/modem and buying my own router would help the situation at all.

I've been told they are different in some way. Can someone explain to me why a 220 volt washing machine can be used but I'm told a 220 volt dryer I cannot? Is it different or stronger currents? Please explain.
