Reset the iPhone, now it won't do anything?

I was having trouble with Safari, so I did a Reset All Content and Settings. I think the battery may have run out while it was resetting.

Now, when I try to turn it on, it indicates it needs to be plugged in. So, I have it plugged in for a full day now and it still indicates an empty/nearly empty battery. It mostly displays the apple logo while it is plugged in. What do I do? Please tell me I haven't ruined the thing. It's an iPhone 2 or 3, I think.

Get a new phone, it means the battery is on its last legs. It reminds me of the old macs at my school, They got ruined of age and always have to be plugged in.
