Why do many still believe in a future eschatology? last days etc?
time and time again this doctrine has been proven false.
prominent people who formed this idea and preached this idea like Hal Lindsey (1980s), John Darby (1830), etc... (although no one before 1800s believed this)
have been proven false and their predictions false....
why oh why?
@Raissa the formulation of this false future eschatology started from the Catholic Church...
1500s from Francisco Ribera. many set this aside for the falsity that it is (even the vatican rejected this), up until 1800s when people started believing this, when Scofield published his bible commentary. and then after this period so did the RCC change it's course of eschatology beliefs
Go do some reading....
@Someone else, but these are the origin of the said belief...
no one knew about this before the 1800s....
Daniel's fulfillment was Jesus
Revelation's fulfillment was 30-70AD.
-no rapture
-no future seven year global tribulation
-no personified anti-christ.

For the same reason they like to believe in Nostradamus, astrology, Jeane Dixon. etc. It's more entertaining than their normal everyday lives.
Conspiracy folks are in the same boat.

Watch the world headlines especially those concerning the Middle East.
4 FUTURE WARS (the catching away of true Christians happens just before this.
In the process of happening now…
Also look for Isaiah 17:1, 14 to happen any day now. (the destruction of Damascus ) That will lead into the following.
1. Islamic war against Israel led by Russia and her armies. This army consists of Russia and the Islamic countries listed in Ezekiel 38:1-6. Ezekiel 39:1-12 (Persia which is Iran, Libya, Ethiopia which includes the Africa, Germany, all the Arab spring countries) describes that war where millions intend to attack Israel BUT GOD intervenes and kills all but 1/6th of them. Revelation 14:20 describes the place of battle as being FILLED WITH BLOOD up to the horses' bridles for 184 miles. This war happens at the beginning of the Tribulation. Even now Russian warships are off the coast of Israel and Syria. Watch the headlines. http://www.armageddonangelsufos.com/
2. The 6th Trumpet releases the 4 fallen angels held in the River Euphrates and they lead a 200 Million demonic army from the Bottomless Pitt that kills one third of mankind. See: Revelation 9:13-18.
3. Universal War…Armageddon where ALL ( including the kings of the East which includes China) nations are represented, led by the Antichrist go against Israel and Jesus as King of kings. All of this army is destroyed. Zechariah 14:2 –16 Jesus then rules forever.
Zec 14:12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth (sounds a little like that scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark when the Nazis opened the Ark and were consumed away.)
This is when Satan is chained in the Bottomless Pitt for 1000 years.
4. The last war is at the end of the Millennial reign of Christ LED BY SATAN who was loosed for a time to gather all rebels against the saints of God. They are destroyed by fire from Heaven and Satan is thrown into the Lake of Fire where the Antichrist and False Prophet are. This is when the Earth is then cleansed by fire while all earth inhabitants are at the Great White Throne Judgment, either those on trial or as witnesses. Those in their natural bodies who have survived the Tribulation will be in the audience.
At this time all the great oceans will be dried up. There will still be inland seas, lakes and rivers. We will then have the New Heavens and New Earth. The New Jerusalem will be on Earth and God will dwell with men. The New Jerusalem will be 1500 miles high, long and wide with plenty of room for all the people of God from Adam to the present time.
Why would a God of love allow the slaughter of these wars to occur? This is very disturbing to most people, and do you know what it? It should be.
The answer though is really very, very simple. God must deal with sin. He has to do so because He is a holy God of justice and righteousness.
Personally, I'm glad the Bible teaches that God is going to deal with sin and that there will be judgment. You know why? God's promise of judgment means that life has meaning. If we're never going to be accountable for anything, life has no meaning.
See Daniel chapters 8 and 11 to see where the Antichrist comes from.

You need to rephrase your question, using the term "eschatology" correctly. Properly defined, the word "escahtology" means 'the study of endtime events'.
What I think you are askng is a question about the "pre-tribulation rapture of the church", am I correct?
In correctly understanding this particular doctrine, one must separate the "rapture" itself from the "timing" aspect of it, for there are so many proof-texts for the rapture itself, that there is no doubt about its actuality.
The timing of this 'catching away' of he saints, however, is where the controversy arises; whether it is pre, mid, post, pre-wrath, or not at all....
Pre-trib is the view most evangelicals and some others have ascribed to, but it has no basis in scripture, except for the "rapture" itself aspect.
Jesus Himself stated the relationship of His 2nd coming to the rapture very clearly in Matthew 24:29-31. It is a simultaneous event; when he comes back, the dead in Christ rise to meet Him in the air, and the living follow. (1 Thessalonians 4:14-17)
A note to those pre-tribbers who say the "elect" of Matthew 24:31 refers to the Jews: The 'elect' in the new testament always refers to the believers, or the church; the body of Christ. In Ephesians we see Paul referring to the mystery of God: The two shall be one. Jews and gentiles together forming the body of Christ; the church. This is the elect of God.

If you are concerned with the notions of millennialism, the near return of Christ, and dispensationalism: not every Christian believes in these specifics about eschatology, and they are not necessary to believe to be saved. (We don't know when Christ will return; it could be today, or it could be 5,000 years from now.)
Nevertheless, the everyone in the church has always believed that Christ will physically return, that he will raise us from the dead, and that everlasting life in that resurrected state awaits those who trust in him. Why? Scripture unambiguously affirms them (e.g. Romans 8, 1 Corinthians 15, Revelation 20-22, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, John 5:25-30). Read the Apostles' Creed.

Hmmm. I used to work at a car dealership, in the 1970s. We had a used car salesman named Hal Lindsey. I'm pretty sure he would have sworn the apocalypse was coming, if he could get a commission.

It's exciting for them to believe that there is an order and a pattern to the universe that only they can explain but they don't want to acknowledge that our life is bigger than the television set you see in front of you.

I had a class in eschatology at the Dallas Theological Seminary under Dr. Dwight Pentecost. (This did not have anything to do with Hal Lindsey or the other guy you mentioned.)
The information is contained in the bible, and mostly in the books of Daniel and Revelation.
It's the real deal.
