What do you mean by being "popular"?

Women could catch men's attention for various reasons. One is physical appearance. It could be a beautiful face and/or a whistle-bait body. [Try not to use feminine standards of beauty; men might have different standards.] Short shorts help, in that they display a woman's legs -- which turn some men on.

Men could be paying a certain woman attention because she's the town **** and an "easy lay".

Then again, that woman could be getting attention because she's very charming and gives men the attention that they want.

To answer your primary question, if a man likes a woman simply because she's popular, then he probably just wants to have her as a sort of trophy. But then again, it could be that her popularity is only incidental, and that men like that particular popular woman because of who she is.

Well I attend a university. I tend to not go for the "real popular girls" since they tend to be popular since they get with a bit of guys. So I try to find the not so loud or as popular girl but who is still fine as hell looking and talk to her.

beauty is not only outside it inside too. don't u see in streets like strange couples one is beoutifull whilst second is ugly , or don't u here that every girls are mad about guy who is not beutifull but he can make crazy all girls,and there are much more beutifull boys who don't have gf... so it is only character...

and second reason is some man likes to hunting for women who is popular, like who has lot of admires,some man like to compete with other men, like wins that man whom she said YES... and this man will show all that he is better and most attractive as she chose him among so many admirers

I don't think so, I know I don't. Some guts do it for popularity, some do it for love, just friends on the type of guy he is

Maybe she makes chaps feel good around her. Maybe she makes them laugh. Maybe she is simpatico, Maybe she is all of those things and more.

It's called personality.
