Are somerset teacups ok to make into candles?
I wanted to make candles for someone for Christmas and i found that just pouring the wax into a teacup and putting a wick in works, however , i was wondering if the somerset teacups by nl excel were ok to use, seeing as they sort of spark when placed in the microwave , not catch on fire , just make a little light show so to speak, now i did light a match and put it in the teacup and nothing happened , just to experiment .. so you think these teacups are safe to make candles?

You'll be fine for candles, the spark in the microwave just means the cups have some kind of metal embossment. Possibly pewter, silver, or even gold.
Edit: Here's a set I found that have a silver trim.

The cups should be okay to use as molds for the candles. Don't forget the candles can also get small air holes in them after you pour the wax into the cup. You can remove that by inserting a knitting needles into the warm, soft wax and remove after a couple of seconds.

You have to use a very thin wick so that the heat from the flame stays away from the edge of the cup.
The cup is designed to hold something a temperature of no more than 180 degrees, the candle can easily reach 220.

You can use anything you like,as long as it's fireproof.Putting cups with a metal trim in the microwave is very unwise,it can harm both the cup & the microwave.
