What baby formulas/cereals do NOT have extra iron?

I don't care what the "research" says about the benefits of adding iron, my baby is 6 months old, is starting to eat solids, and will still be breast feeding. This is for a supplement only.

Baby cereal is bad and if your child is still breast fed, there's no need to add formula. Just start with fruits and veggies.

If you want a low iron formula then you might consider similac pm 60/40. It comes in small 14.1 oz cans so it can become pricey if you need a lot, but I've had better experience with it regarding my daughter's digestive tract than I do with the typical cans of formula I find on store shelves everywhere else. Compared to the iron content in typical formulas at about 1.8 mg per 100 calories my daughter's formula contains only 0.7 mg per 100 calories. Now her formula is personally mandated by her doctor because of her kidneys, but you have to use your own judgement about what is best for your child. To get it you will either have to order it online or go to the pharmacy counter of your local drug store and ask them to special order it for you. Iron is an important dietary need, but too much can very quickly make it difficult for baby to go comfortably. You may even be able to do without formula if your baby gets enough calories otherwise, but if you feel like it is necessary then by all means look into it.

I don't believe you will find formula without iron.

You can feed regular hot cereal for adults to a baby, as well as fruit, vegetables, and almost any other food.. And the AAP recommends meat as a good first food.

You could buy ground rice or ground oatmeal that's meant for older people. Just check the ingredients to see that there is no added salt.

No need for baby cereal, go ahead and start with fruits and veggies.

You can buy any adult cereal, or you can skip the cereal and just offer fruits and vegetables.
