Could my dog's history of being left outside for 18 months w/o anyone paying attn. be why he is so needy?

He was left out in his owner's back yard after he was deemed 'too rambunctious for the kids'(he's an English Mastiff/Mountain Cur mix),finally turned over to a shelter, where I got him. I don't even have to call him,he seeks me out,and tries to stay up under me.

He's been traumatized by being isolated for so long. It will take a while for him to believe that you aren't going to push him away also.

Sounds like he has abandonment issues. Poor thing. The best thing those bozo ex owners ever did was surrender him to a shelter so people like you who really care can find him.
