Fantasy Football: Benching their players for a TIE because it guaranteed their playoffs?

Quick Summary: Two teams benched their players and scored a 0. This resulted in a TIE which guaranteed them a spot in the playoffs. Had either person lost they would've not made it into the playoffs

Backstory: Top 4 make it. Two teams 3rd and 4th seed are 8-5. The 5th and 6th seed are both 7-6. The 3rd and 4th seed teams just happen to be playing each other in the last week of fantasy football. So by benching their team and getting a tie the two teams will result in a 8-5-1 record. At best the 5th and 6th seed teams can only finish 8-6.

According to yahoo rules standings are determined based on Winning Percentage.

So an 8-5-1 team is going to be ranked ahead of a 8-6 team. So in essence, the 3rd and 4th seed teams are acting in the best interest of their team by benching their players for a tie which gets them into the playoffs

the question is, is this cheating? or within the rules/spirit of the game?

Yes this is Germany-Austria 1982. Collusion big time.

I find this very interesting; can you post a link to your league so I can follow the results?

It is collusion and both teams should be held accountable, if you're in a $$ league people are going to get pissed, but you always have to take the perspective of the NFL, that same scenario is possible, what would the NFL do?

Personally I feel that, although it was a smart idea, it is cheating nonetheless and cheaters should not be rewarded with a playoff appearance, give them both losses and move the 5th and 6th seed to 3rd and 4th place and let the cheaters complain.

I like it. That's a creative way to go about getting into the playoffs. Feel bad for the 5 and 6 seeds, It's the commish's call. Put it up to a vote, you could say its cheating and put their prior weeks roster in the line up and see who comes out ahead. Or if you call it cheating, eliminate them and move the 5 & 6 seed to 3 & 4.

Yes this is a form of collusion. The commissioner of this league should do something about this. My only question is would either of the 5th or 6th seeds (if they won) move ahead of the 3rd or 4th seeds (whoever lost)? If not then i guess it is a moot point, but this situation should have never happened.
