Update:

    Well Di,

i have to realize that even with the brackets,

i do not understand.... in classical maths language.

Therefore... let's imagine what it might mean...

(like with Judy Foster in the film "Contact" !)

    then, i would say that:

if, in place of the first underscore, we have a "+" then we obtain :

    x + 2x - 6 = 3x - 6 = 3(x - 2)

    and

if, in place of the second underscore, we have a " . " (multiplication)

    then we get :

    2 . x - 4 = 2(x - 2)

    but now...

... my mind is some kinda lost somewhere in the gallaxy !

    second trial :

    (x_2x-6)=(2_x-4)

might mean an equation : still with a plus and multiplication, giving:

    x + 2x - 6 = 2x - 4

    which leads to

    x + 2x - 6 - 2x = 2x - 4 - 2x

    x - 6 + 6 = - 4 + 6

    finally:

    x = 2

    ;-)

    et voilà !!

a moment of poetry in this World of brutes...

    (French "proverb")

    hope it' ll help !!
