why don't more people go and rate the answers?

Is it they just want to answer questions and are afraid to find out how their answers are being rated? Also, didn't realize you can vote for your own question. Doesn't that make you a narcissist?

I feel rating is a pretty pointless thing - most of the time it seems to relate to how many friends you have, or whether you have taken the "popular" stance rather than whether the answer is any good. I am certainly not at all bothered by someone rating my answer one way or the other.

Personally, I am more concerned by the number of people who ask questions and cannot be bothered to give a BA or even vote on the answers to their own questions (which is odd as it is to their "point" advantage to do so). If people didn't vote for their own answers, there would be an even larger number of unresolved questions floating around.
