What is a great tennis book?

The person I might buy the book for loves tennis. He's slightly obsessed with it. He has been playing for about four years. So he needs an advanced book, not one for beginners. Is there an amazing book out there that isn't $40 plus? I'm looking more for around $10-20.

    A couple of possibilities:

Oon, Desmond, PhD, with Lafont, Damien, PhD. "Conversation with a Zen Tennis Master." Synergy Books Publishing, 2013. Paperback. ISBN: 978-1-4675-6524-6. Subtitle: "Courting the Mind, Minding the Court."

United States Tennis Association, "Friend At Court." Senior Editors: Steve Gerdes and Rich Kaufman. Produced for the USTA by H.O. ZIMMAN, Inc. 307 pages. Subtitle: "The USTA Handbook of Tennis Rules and Regulations, 2013 Edition." To order your copy, go to: http://www.ustashop.com/ and place your mouse over "Novelties," and click on Books at the bottom of the pop-up menu.

Veneziano, Tom. "The Truth About Winning." 3rd Edition. Tom Veneziano Enterprises, 2006, 2001. ISBN: 0-9716203-9-3

Found out about this book when I was surfing the web and came across Coach Veneziano's web site, www.tenniswarrior.com Bought myself a copy, and he’s come up with a way of thinking that will help you, regardless of your skill level. Later on, I got his audio CD entitled "The Refocus Technique - Controlling Your Emotions in Tennis," which was also very strong.

Here are a few suggestions; Bud Collins Modern Encyclopedia of Tennis.-Great basic history of the sport. Venus Envy by L.Jon Wertheim-about the Williams sisters, and the rest of the women's tour a few years ago. Topspin,Ups and downs in big-time tennis by Eliot Berry The Rivals-Johnette Howard-about the great Navratilova-Evert rivalry. This is a very well written book. Hard Courts by John Feinstein-about the tennis scene in the late eighties.Excellent. My Life with the Pros by Bud Collins-this is by one of the great tennis writers, and commentators. Covering the Court by Al Laney-A great recounting of the "Golden Age" of tennis. The Handbook of Tennis by Paul Douglas-This is out of print, but if you can find a copy,it is a very good instruction book. These two books are rare, and hard to get,but great. The Ultimate Tennis Book:500 Years of the Sport by Gianni Clerici-This book is huge, with tons of pictures. Tennis : A Cultural History by Heiner Gillmeister-This is the single greatest work on the origins of the sport.A real history book. There are also many player bios of varying quality. But I think this is a good start for tennis reading. Best Wishes.

I've read a lot of tennis books. Who is his favorite player? That's an important question. I enjoyed "Open" by Andre Agassi. Most of the good tennis books are autobiographies.
