Need mothers that were on the birthcontrol shot Depo-Provera to answer!!!?
Hi ladies. I am 18 years old and I recently quit taking the birth control shot Depo-Provera. I had such terrible side effects: swelling, uncontrollable weight gain, instead of no periods I had extended periods which lasted two to three weeks, bloated, nausea all the time, constant pounding migraines, cravings and a whole lot more. For awhile I thought I was pregnant but every test I took was negative. I stopped taking the shot November 21st the day I was suppose to receive my next shot. I usually start my period the last week of every month but I never started. I was having unprotected sex while on the shot but since I stopped we have used protection. Did any of your periods delay after stopping the shot? Can there be a problem I need to consult my doctor about? Also on average how long did it take you to get pregnant I have been on the shot for 3 years now and I would not recommend that sort of birth control to anyone. Please try and help me out!! Thank you.

I had the depo shot at around 16/17 years old and it is a regret of mine taking it. My periods stopped completely while on it, as it did on any progesterone only medication. I also became physically aggressive while on it. I stopped taking it at some point and my periods were always sporadic anyway.
My periods were always longer than the average cycle - usually more then 30 odd days. After stopping the depo it took two years for me and my husband to conceive our first child when I was 19.
I went on the pill after our daughters birth when I was 20 and came off again a few months after I qualified as a nurse (I qualified in 2010 when I was 26).
That was in February 2011 and we have been trying to conceive our second child since the - nearly 3 long years.
I have been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and in 2012 I only had 4 periods and in 2013 I have only had 2 periods - one in April and one in September so there is no way I can get pregnant when I am up against that.
While my periods have never ever been "normal", except the fake ones while on the Pill, like you, I would never ever advise anyone to start the Depo injection.
I wish you luck with your conceiving journey if you do decide to try.
