Study Abroad in Italy? Need some help :)?

Next year I will be a Sophomore in high school but I am kind of considering doing a sort of exchange program in Italy in which I go to a high school in Italy (Roma, preferably) for a year/half a year and then I would come back to my normal high school in the U.S. after the year/half year.

What are some options that I could do this? Also, I have family friends in Rome so I guess I could stay with them while I go to school. It does sound kind of complicated but is it possible?

And my high school now doesn't provide an exchange program in Italy. Oh and I am (almost) completely fluent in Italian.

Please

Hello Ashley, I'm an italian boy so i think i can help you a little... i think you might consider the idea of sending your application to an exchange program organization such as afs or wep... but it's kinda expensive and if you can't spend a lot it's very hard that they will accept your application, i tried a couple years ago but i failed since i have a real low income... however, if you have family friends or relatives living in italy things are way easier, since you could get a student visa and get enrolled in an italian school as an international student. that's not too complicated i think... i'm trying to get to study in australia as an international students as well but it's not going too well to me xD i will try to find some other useful informations for you byeeeeeeeee

Italy is a great place to study abroad! It would be a great experience and will help you improve on your Italian language proficiency. I encourage you to do a full year program if possible. You will have more time to integrate into the culture and really feel comfortable.

In regards to staying with family friends in Rome, that would be a great idea. For some organizations, the family can apply to become a host family, and then you can apply to be a student through the same organization. If both parties are accepted, you have a good chance of working out a direct placement!

Most programs do require a tuition to be paid, but you can apply for scholarships if available and financial aid to help assist your family.
