Aweful Smell From Recent Remodel?
We recently had an old pantry converted to a laundry room at the rear of our house. The basement foundation does not extend to this pantry, there is a dirt floor under the room with a very small crawl space. Never had issue in the past, but since it got cold a foul musty smell seems to be coming from the floor.
I'm trying to get the contractor to come back and see if I can get him to fix the problem, but wanted to see if anyone on here had any idea what needs to be done to resolve the issue?
Not sewage or animal, smells very earthy and wet.

It depends on what the smell is--what it smells like. If it smells like sewage, your septic system could be backed up. If it smells like chemicals, it could be the glue they used to put down your floor--or the adhesive or the grout from the tile. It might be that your plumbing is discharging under the house into this space--or an animal could have crawled in there and died. Could be lots of things, in other words, but without knowing what exactly it smells like, it's hard to tell here.

Something similar happened to my neighbor when her cesspool froze and the sewage backed up and leaked out into the space underneath her bedroom.
We learned some "colorful" expressions from the contractor who had to chip out the frozen gunk and replace the pipe.
