I'd look at survivalist websites for what you would need to be independent.
rent the movie, I think most of your answers are there.

Purpose would be the hardest to work out since dinosaurs exsisted several millions of years before small mammals evolved, never mind humans or their predecessors. The climate and flora was vastly different during their time. Introducing such creatures in todays environment would be irresponsible and may cause irreputable harm to the indigenous animal population. There is no way knowing what diseases or health issues such critters would bring, or if such issues would be problematic to all aspects of nature and the modern creatures living in it.
