How do I know if I am making the right career choice to be a teacher?
Understand that I am just a college freshman. I started out as a biology major because I wanted to be in the healthcare field but I didn't know what I wanted to do, but now I'm an Early Childhood Ed Major. I loved school as a child, but as I grew older I hated it and always said that I would never be a teacher. When I became a senior in high school I was randomly put into a teaching class that I wasn't too fond of at first but I grew to love it. I interned at the local elementary school in a 3rd grade classroom for a semester, I thought I would hate it but I liked it. I enjoyed spending time with the students and helping them learn. I was intrigued by how excited they are about learning. Anyway, sometimes I wonder if I am making the right choice. I know I'm going to have to explain concepts to students. I'm not really that good at explaining things but I really want to get better at it. How do I know that I am making the right career choice? I see people change their majors on the daily and I don't want to be one of those people who gets halfway into college and decide to change my major.

I wish I could give you an easy answer, but frankly, you don't. There are always things that come up that we can't predict. And honestly, changing your major isn't so bad.
However, if you enjoyed your classroom experience, enjoy being with kids and fuelling their curiosity, you're at the right spot right now. Also, it's not a bad thing that you hated school; that might really help you reach a variety of kids.
I would say get the most that you can out of your program and enjoy it.

If you're passionate about teaching, then you shouldn't worry about the fact that you aren't good at explaining things. With practice, you'll get better at it, especially if teaching is a job that you really want to pursue. On the other hand, if it's just something that you sort of picked out, then perhaps you should explore other career paths. You may want to use an online decision maker such as http://www.quitornot.com/ which can help you decide if you're on the right track. Best of luck!
