The modern metric system known as "The International System of Units" or SI, has seven base units and 22 derived units.

The unit for length is the meter.

    1 inch = 0.025 4 meter.

Therefore to convert 10 inches into metric units is

    0.025 4 x 10 = 0.254 meter.

Your teacher has requested, that the answer be in metric units, and as stated above, the meter is the metric unit for length, so therefore the answer is 0.254 meter.

However, if prefixes are used with the unit, then 0.254 meter is equal to 25.4 centimeters (25.4 cm) or if a whole number is required, then 0.254 meter is equal to 254 millimeters (254 mm).

I hope this helps answer you question.

Yes, the metric system includes millimeters, centimeters, meters, kilometers, etc. These are all measures of length or distance.

What you have to do is simple. We know that:

    1 in = 2.54 cm

    Therefore:

    10 in = 2.54 cm * 10 = 25.4 cm

If you would like to use meters, just divide by 100 since there are 100 cm in every meter:

    25.4 cm = 0.254 m

Yes , cm is metric and is used widely throughout the world.

It is a very logical system based on a base of 10.

    10 ins = 10 x 2.54cm = 25.4 cm
