The Chevy Sonic is a great small car. I'm not an owner but follow small car news often. It isn't the best when it comes to storage space/utility (for that look into the Honda Fit), but it is infinitely better than the Aveo that came before it. Higher build quality, sporty looks and handling and a six-speed transmission really help that car make a name for itself.
It has a couple of good engines too, though I would go for the 1.8 turbo for smoothness and fuel economy. The 1.4, while good and better than many engines, can be a bit rough and slow to respond I've heard.
But if you're aiming for a small car (I drive a Honda Fit, small cars are my favorite) the Sonic is definitely a worthy car to go for. It's better than the Nissan Versa, the Mazda 2, the Kia Rio and at least as good as the Honda Fit (forgive that last one, I'm biased). Good luck!
