Was is wrong of me to ask my girlfriend this?

"If I can't call you honey, what can I call you?"

We were chatting. She called me honey before so I began calling her honey.

She then told me not to call her that because she liked calling me that but not

that I do the same to her. I then asked her the question above. Up until this

point, including the question, it was all playful conversation. She began

ignoring me afterwards and later told me that she was upset because I had

asked her that. We're not together anymore, and I want to know if it was

a bad idea to ask her that. Was it a poor decision? Am I unaware of something?
