Need help with a fundraiser?
My school is fundraising for 5 months. The month my group is doing is January, so it's coming up pretty soon. My group consists of 7 people, and only me, and 2 others are actually taking initiative.
We're doing a Busker Fest, where we're going to preform our talents at lunch, in the hallways, near the office, in the mornings, etc. for a week. So far we have singing, drawing portraits and playing guitar. All of that stuff is taken care of, but what the problem is, is that no one will actually start anything.
I've made some cards with advertising and recruiting, but that's about it. I'm trying to make posters, but I don't know what to put on them. I'm also going to put together some announcements, but that's all we have planned.
I'm so stressed, because we haven't had any meeting to discuss things because everyone bails when the time comes. I've only ever communicated with a few people over the phone and facebook. I've tried to at school, but half of my group has co-op in the afternoon, so we can't meet at lunch. The others aren't very reliable to show up at school, and the only other person who is, is one I'm not in the best situation with right now.
I need some serious advice as to how to get this going and get everyone helping. Some advertising ideas would be helpful, too. Anything you can think of that you think could help me in any way will be greatly appreciated.
I'm planning to ask for help from my teacher, as well.
Thank you in advance.

As a person who has done multiple fundraisers I will tell you this- people are very unreliable. Not what you wanted to hear right? That said - definitely get your teacher involved. Often times when someone higher up or who has some type of authority asks people will actually buckle down. Onto the fundraising- remember that you cannot control fundraising. What people do and give is only up to them and therefore do not stress yourself out. I would designate a space where the buskers should meet and make some sort of schedule (is everyone doing their thing at the same time? some on only certain days?) either way you can use a free program like signup genius to send out to your group- it will have them sign up for a time slot and a "job"- it will also email them reminders about it. That is all you can do for that. As for advertising- definitely posters. You may want to try to think of a giveaway too.... donate and get a raffle ticket for a drawing- try a local business (restaurants are great for this- offer to put their name up on all your posters!) for a gift card. This may help get the giving going! If you cannot find a business to donate- get creative and make up a gift basket - if everyone in your group chips in a couple bucks you could do something as simple as candy/snacks and school supplies, just dress it up to look really festive. Hope that helps. You sound like the kind of person who will volunteer for a lot of things in the future and take it seriously- we need more like you!
