Which cricketer/s did you want to be...?

when you were growing up when playing cricket in the streets/backyard/oval? Who inspired you to bat/bowl just like them?

Initially I wanted to be Terry Alderman after watching him annihilate England in 1989 and worked hard (and failed) at my seam bowling but then Dean Jones caught my eye and modelled my batting style (or lack thereof) on his aggressive approach to cricket. Both are still probably my favourite cricketers ever.

What about you?

Update:

**Does that mean you were a belligerent hooker then RSDS? One of my favourite strokes of all time. Could feast on the leg side all day.

Update 2:

***Did you ever try the Thommo action Red? That was hard to master...I had the ball going everywhere but at the wickets :D And I had a sore shoulder to boot

Bowling was always Lillie or Thommo but sometimes Lenny Pascoe. Coming in to bat was always Dougie Walters

    When I was a kid ,it was Benaud,Simpson,then Lillee/Thommo

Although I was never a good spinner, and nowhere near the pace of Thommo/Lillee

I could however swing the ball heaps as a medium pacer.

never could get the Thommo action at all, just seemed awkward to me.

On most days,Thommo had the ball going everywhere but the wickets. That's what made him so dangerous.

Sachin Tendulkar though my batting style was more like that of Ricky Ponting according to my friends.

    Edit:

Yes. When I was young, I always practiced hook shots and straight drives. :-)

Lillee and Thomson for sure. Even grew my hair to shoulder length to mother's horror.

    No thoughts on that,being a female & I don't remember ever hearing about a women's team,maybe they didn't play internationally back then.
