What would you do if a teacher gave a student a grade they didn't get?

I just found out that one of the girls in my class received a C, when she should have gotten a D. She failed the final with a 40%. That would have given her a low D. I made a 72 on the final, but did not receive a C, I got a D--the grade I should have gotten. I just don't understand why SHE received a C, but I didn't, even though I had a higher average than her.

Update:

This is college. We did not have any extra credit assignments. I was referring to the overall average. The final exam was weighted more heavily. The teacher gave us the formula used to calculate our grades...they were based on exams only. The teacher was a HE not a she.

Update 2:

Because I am friends with her, thats how. She told me. My other grades were Straight A's thanks. This included Biochemistry, Hematology, Clinical Microbiology. So yeah, try again.

If she was offered extra credit, how come I wasn't? She says she didn't receive extra credit.

Ok if this is college, then how do you know what another girl got? Does the professor post the name and grades of everyone in the class? If not, then how did you find out? Do you know how well she did on her other exams? And if you think there is no extra credit in college, you are so wrong. While not every professor gives it out, there are professors that will offer extra credit to those who ask. There is also a chance she did extra work, went to see the professor during office hours for help. By the way, how were your other grades? doesn't sound like they werent that great if you ended up with a D with a final grade.

You have no valid interest in what the other student received as a grade. In fact, you can only rightly be interested in your own grade. And you told us that you received an honest grade. So, you're through. Go on the the next term and do better.

You need to worry about your grades only. Seeing other students' grades is a FERPA violation.

If you are so concerned, you really should be asking your instructor and not Yahoo Answers.

It's really not your business. It's a violation of FERPA law to have access to the grades of other students. Worry about improving your own grade.

The sad fact is that grades are often given out based on the sex, personality, or just social skills of the student.

Maybe bribery, or maybe she just likes her more than you. I admit it is fustrating that while getting the same results, she gets preferred.
