Jehovah's Witnesses, are you now allowed to read and study material from other Christian churches like?
Baptist, Catholics, or Mormons? Can you buy and read books from Christian book stores other than a Bible? Aren't these products considered apostate in nature? What about articles that go directly against your WT doctrines? What do your Elders say about such religious material?
Hi Angelmusic 1914,
Thank you for your answer but it appears you would only buy Bibles and Bible reference books like concordances. It appears you still are very limited as to what the Elders would allow you to read.
For example you would never buy a study on the Holy Spirit from a Baptist based group that takes the position that the Holy Spirit is part of a Trinity right? Or a book that uses scripture showing Jesus is God in the flesh...right? Or a study on the correct name of God, or a study on Raymundus Martini and the term Jehovah...right? What other books are allowed now...Joyce Myer books? Not sure if I got her last name right? What about "apostate" books like the one Ray Franz wrote? Are those allowed? Thanks!
Hi TJ,
Thank you for this clear quote from their publications. It appears as I was taught when I was a JW. I didn't think it had changed! It seems they still control the flow of information. I wish Angelmusic 1914 was a bit more honest with her answer. I could see she danced around the question and wouldn't give a straight answer..just enough to make it appears like they have freedom to use independent thinking, but that really isn't the case.

Only a few months back in their in-house 'Our Kingdom Ministry ' used to train JWs in distributing Watchtower publications, JWs were reminded not to accept non JW literature in exchange for Watchtower publications as non Watchtower books teach and promote false teachings. ...JWs want you to take their literature but are forbidden to take yours. ...
they want you to examine your religion but are not allowed to scrutinize theirs. .
They offer you a 'Bible study' but can never accept a Bible study from a non JW
They want you to go to their kingdom hall but are not allowed to attend services in churches.
The average JW would not even buy concordances , commentaries produced by other religions....they are conditioned to believe that the Watchtower has all they need.
Watchtower 1967 June 1 p 338
'In Jehovah's organisation ,it is not neccessary to spend a lot of time and energy in research, for there are brothers in the organization who are assigned to do that very thing'
If a JW wanted to know what any other religion teaches about any subject, they would rely on the research done by the WT by going to the Watchtower library not buy a book on the subject written by the religion.

Quote:
"From time to time, there have arisen from among the ranks of Jehovah's people those, who, like the original Satan, have adopted an independent, faultfinding attitude... They say that it is sufficient to read the Bible exclusively, either alone or in small groups at home. But, strangely, through such 'Bible reading,' they have reverted right back to the apostate doctrines that commentaries by Christendom's clergy were teaching 100 years ago..."
(Watchtower, Aug. 15, 1981, p. 29).
The above article says that the Trinity, the deity of Christ, and the physical resurrection of Christ are all false doctrines
The WBTS.inc Publication says that if you read the Bible by itself you will end up believing these doctrines. In other words, if you read the Bible by itself, then you will become a Trinitarian, believe that Jesus is God, and believe that Jesus rose from the dead physically. Thus you must read only study the WBTS.in publication so that you will gain the truth / believe in what Watchtower believe is the truth...

Many of whats written about does not agree with the Bible and a lot is about traditions. This is well known
and nothing has changed. I can get the Truth of God's Word for free. Here are some Doctrines that the Bible
does not teach:
============
Myth 1: The Soul Is Immortal
What is the origin of the myth? “The early Christian philosophers adopted the Greek concept of the soul’s immortality and thought of the soul as being created by God and infused into the body at conception.”—The New Encyclopædia Britannica (1988), Volume 11, page 25.
What does the Bible say? “The soul that sinneth, it shall die.”—Ezekiel 18:4, King James Version.
=================
Myth 2: The Wicked Suffer in Hell
What is the origin of the myth? “Of all classical Greek philosophers, the one who has had the greatest influence on traditional views of Hell is Plato.”—Histoire des enfers (The History of Hell), by Georges Minois, page 50.
“From the middle of the 2nd century AD Christians who had some training in Greek philosophy began to feel the need to express their faith in its terms . . . The philosophy that suited them best was Platonism [the teachings of Plato].”—The New Encyclopædia Britannica (1988), Volume 25, page 890.
“The teaching of the Church affirms the existence of hell and its eternity. Immediately after death the souls of those who die in a state of mortal sin descend into hell, where they suffer the punishments of hell, ‘eternal fire.’ The chief punishment of hell is eternal separation from God.”—Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1994 edition, page 270.
What does the Bible say? “For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing, . . . for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going.”—Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10, Revised Standard Version.

My faith is unshakable and solid no matter what publications are presented to me that I read. It's too bad the Watchtower's doctrine isn't. Any group that professes to have the one and only TRUTH should not be the least bit intimidated to study with other bible believing Christians.

Our literature is free - we don't sell it.
What I buy from a Christian bookstore is legitimate research and study tools - not literature that SHOULD be free from other churches.
My post to another question with the same subject -
I have all kinds of Bibles, concordances, Interlinears, commentaries, Biblical archaeological books, and Bible dictionaries that I have bought from Christian book stores.
The last one I visited, not too long ago, was in Jacksonville FL and I spent $212 for the books I bought.
So I have to disagree with your assumption.
I am glad you asked though because now you know that your question is incorrect and we can give you the correct answer.

They would have to have as many scriptures in them as the Jehovah's witnesses have.in there publications. The Jehovah's Witnesses' website is already the most widely translated on the www and their magazine the most distributed. So they seem to be the only ones fulfilling Matthew 24:14

Ive got tons of literature, much of it from before I became a witness because I was searching for the truth. So its all here still as reference material.
I still cant fathom why so many ex JWs feel a need to cling to the JWs who they profess to detest?
