Well done you for wanting to make a change!

The answer is very simple, dude! Exercise and eat healthy! There is no better way than this, seriously.

Eating wise: try and take packed lunches to school! Don't take anyone's offer for gum or any sweets/chocolate - even if it's the smallest portion, small things can make a massive difference! I know it's difficult but did you know it takes JUST 2 weeks until your body stops craving all the unnecessary junk?

Try not to eat carbs like bread! If it is necessary then eat brown bread, peeta bread or brown rice in small proportions! But if you can, just don't! You can eat it when you've lost weight! Obviously not too much then though...

    DRINK LOTS OF WATER!

Don't count calories! It doesn't help you too much... Just eat vegetables! Try not to eat too much fruit as it can make you bloated...

Exercise: you said you enjoy basketball. Then have fun by practicing for 1/2 - 1 hour everyday! Do reps up and down court! Stay motivated!

Just take care of your eating and make sure you stay away from sugar and junk food such as chocolate, cake, ice cream, burgers, pizza, fries, hot dogs, sodas etc. Eat more fruit and vegetables and whole-grain food like eggs, turkey, brown bread, brown rice, brown pasta, weetabix for breakfast maybe or any other healthy cereals or you could have things like oatmeal. DO NOT skip meals because that will most likely not work and will just hold you back. Try to eat smaller portions and don't eat if you're not hungry. If you think you're hungry all the time, drink enough water and that can fill you up. Make sure to have small and healthy snacks throughout the day to help your metabolism. Try not to have more than 1500 calories a day.

For exercising, don't JUST go to the gym 3 times a week for half an hour and expect some magic. You can exercise at home too. In fact, there's a really good method you can use. It only takes 20 minutes too! Basically, each day for 20 minutes, split it into 30 seconds. Each 30 seconds has to have an exercise, for instance pushups, running (only a couple of meters back and forth), situps, leg raises, weightlifting, burpees, jumping jacks etc. Different workouts for different parts of the body. Do each of those only for 30 seconds and push yourself within those 30 seconds - as in HARD. Make sure that when one set of 30 seconds is over, have a 15 second break. During this time, don't sit or eat or anything, just get into a plank position (a pushup position) and hold it for 15 seconds and then resume to your workout, which would be the next 30 seconds but a different exercise. I told you, it doesn't have to be more than 20 minutes a day so try not to overwork yourself because that's not healthy. Now, this may seem easy but I assure you it is NOT. You'll be tired and all, but this will SERIOUSLY help you. Just keep going and don't give up and your end results will be great! It doesn't even cost anything, all you need to do is have a stopwatch, a comfortable place for your body, and if you want, a friend to help you out. It's fun too.

Swimming would be healthy as well. And you should keep going to basketball practice to improve your skill. Just remember to make sure you're not so stressed out because that can lead to weight gain. And make sure you're exercising and eating a balanced diet (the right amount of the right kinds of food - research the food pyramid). If you want, you can treat yourself once in a while - like once a week with something nice so that you're not CRAVING it. Don't have too much though, maybe one slice of cake or something. Even one meal would be alright, I suppose.

    I hope I helped at least a little.xD
