    Sergeant Major Jiggs (Equal in grade to Master Gunnery Sergeant), an English Bulldog that was introduced by U.S. Marine Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler as the first USMC Mascot.

    Very hard question because the Marines have 3 top dogs: 1 appoitned, 1 commissioned and other non commissioned. Two deals with the politics and the other deals with the daily activities and operations.

    You got SecNav, the Commandant of the US Marine, Corp and Sgt Major of the Corp. The last I would say is the top dog. SecNav calls all the shots while the Commandant makes sure it happens in an administrative level. SMMC makes sure it's done, period.
