Dad want to invite his friend to everything! I'm sort of mad, am I overreacting?

Okay, so my dad has this buddy that he works with and they're really good friends. The guy's wife just died this past summer and at Thanksgiving our dad had invited him to have the meal with us. That was just fine, I totally understand that he should spend Thanksgiving with some friends. It was a nice gesture on my dad's part and I get it.

But now our dad has invited him to spend Christmas with us too! This seems like too much to me. Christmas has always been a strictly family thing for us. And we all open presents in the morning in our pajamas, so I wouldn't want this old guy hanging around (he's not a creepy old man, but it's just..weird).

Am I overreacting? How would you feel about this?

I think your dad probably just has good intentions- it must be really hard to lose a wife, especially when it comes to family occasions and celebrations and you end up alone... but I totally understand your concern, too.

But if you're uncomfortable with it, then communicate with your dad. Could you invite his friend over for lunch, and have the morning together as a family without him, or reach a similar compromise? :)
