What's the difference between gcse english studies and gcse english language?

I'm way over the requirements for Lincoln uni but they have a problem that i completed english studies at gcse instead of english language at gcse, even though i got a B in english literature as well. So what is the difference between the two?

It looks like English studies is more about analysing digital texts, whereas English language would be more about the structure of the language punctuation, spelling, etc. HOWVER, the producers of the course appear to believe that students can get 3 GCSEs by studying Englsih, English Literature and English studies, so it appears to be a valid alternative. You could argue that analysing digital texts will be of more use to you in a degree course, than English language, because you need to know English language in order to succeed at English studies! The link is to a PDF on English and English studies by some of the content producers.
