how do you make Douglass possessive?

Is the correct way "Frederick Douglass’s book..." or is it something like "Frederick Douglass' book..."

    Douglass's. There is always an extra s added, even with words that end in s.

    Douglass'. Though they've started allowing it both ways because so many people do it wrong.
