Someone stated that "the universe isn't conscious." that's false..?

Wouldn't that be like saying, "My big toe isn't conscious so, it is an insignificant part of my body?

"Consciousness is the ground of all being!" - Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics

    One Consciousness!

There is not a single point in the entirety of existence, the entire Universe, EVER, that is not Consciousness!

In the large picture, there is not anything that is 'insignificant'!

"The complete Universe (Reality/Truth/God/'Self!'/Tao/Brahman... or any feature herein...) can be completely defined/described as the synchronous sum-total of all Perspectives!" - Book of Fudd

The answer with the Chinese symbol is correct. You made a bad analogy.

Your toe is alive and a part of your living body. The universe is not alive, but contains all the elements of existence "in the now", which work together like your foot and toe work together--using the same laws of nature that are applicable to each. A star doesn't work on any law of nature that applies to blood flowing to living tissue; but it works on the laws of nature that says it has radiation, and if there are planets revolving around it with life, then such laws of nature as apply to that life, in relation to that star, are what apply--no other laws.

The universe isn't conscious of the laws that apply to it. Here is an example. You know the fun experiment we learn where you take two magnets and put the north poles together--they repel each other, but opposite poles attract. The magnets are no more conscious of what is going on than they are of their own existence.

Only life is aware, and only the higher forms of life are conscious.

From a Religious point of view:: 'God' is everywhere & all things at all times. The universe is everywhere too. Therefore, the universe IS conciouse. To say or think otherwise is heresy. ..... From a point of view of Science:: There has never been any studies made throughout the entire universe, to determine whether or not it does or does not have consciousness. Therefore, to say or think that the universe does not have a conscious is very Unscientific. From the point of view of Reality:: If just One living being in the universe has any consciousness at all, then 'that part of the universe' at least, Is conscious, even if nothing else is. ... ALL of the above are True, & All are debateable as well.

If it is it would seem to me that it would require viewing the universe from outside of it to assess the veracity of this statement (which more than a few modern thinkers espouse). As a thought experiment, suppose you could be placed in a person's stomach; would you be to tell if the person who owned the stomach is conscious? The answer is no.

Such questions, while of great interest, are generally poorly posed logically; that is, the premises required to answer the question are either non-existent or circular (as in the universe is conscious because it just has to be, or red is red because it is red).

    No.

If the universe were a "super consciousness" then logically it would seem to me that it would make "saying hello" to human sentient beings a standard part of existence for them, as opposed to the way it is now where "supposedly" only a rare few humans are ever privy to a direct contact experience, and only every few thousand or so years.

    If the universe is conscious…

…why is it not making that fact obvious to all?

I totally agree with EasyDo. Most people have the misconception that only humans or living entities can possibly have consciousness. This is because of a lack of understanding of what consciousness is. Typically, it is used as a medical term, as in, 'the patient has regained consciousness.' From the stand point of existence, consciousness is the capacity to know that know. Everything knows that it is by way of being what it is. The only thing to know anything is identifying with and being the known. The mind claims to "know," but can only "know about." Knowing about cats is not the same as what it means to be one. The universe can be defined as the totality of all that exists, therefore it would be omniscient by way of being everything (omnipresence).

The universe itself is not a living entity however it encompasses millions upon millions of molecules and forms of life all ticking away at once. But no the universe itself isn't tailoring it's ever growing awe inspiring creation to its desire. It's just case and effect if you will

Every particle vibrates in communication with all else. The universe is alive and well in all aspects. If the universe isn`t conscious than neither are we, for all is as one. Find what resonates as true to you. When we reach out to the universe ..it reaches out to us.. Your first notice of this will be coincidences or synchronicity of numbers.. :)

Consciousness is housed in a brain.

The universe does not have a brain.

Therefore, the universe is not conscious.

We , human beings, are that part of the universe which is aware of it.
