How should I file my taxes if i moved out of state?
In October, I moved from California to Nevada. I worked in California from January - September, and I haven't worked in Nevada yet.
I've heard from someone that I MUST file a tax report by the end of the year, and if I don't, that I will get a big fine for it. I know that I must file a tax report for California, and another one for Nevada.
My questions are:
1) Must I file a tax report for California and/or Nevada by the end of the year, or do I still have until April of next year?
2) If I must file it by the end of the year, will I get a big fine if I don't by the end of the year?
Thanks for your help.

Nevada has no income tax, so you file nothing there.
You file a part year return in CA reporting the income earned in CA. You will get a pro-rata allowance for exemptions and deductions, based upon how long you lived and worked in CA.
The CA filing deadline coincides with the federal deadline, April 15.
BTW, it's called a tax return, not a tax report.

You will need to file a California Income Tax Return as you usually do and report only the income that you earned while living in California.
The fact that you moved out of California to another state does not alter or change the due date of your California return.

You file a California return for the part year. Nevada has no state income tax.
