Minecraft, Viruses, & Apple products?
All-in-one question, folks. A relative of mine is tired of getting viruses on their PC while playing Minecraft. A have a few questions, and I would greatly appreciate any information:
#1 - Should playing Minecraft cause viruses on a PC?
#2 - Can you play ALL VERSIONS and ALL ASPECTS of Minecraft on Apple products? My understanding is that there are different ways in which you can play Minecraft. I don't play it, so I don't even understand that. My understanding is that you can create games, or you can play the game in different ways. Maybe you can fill me in on what that means. Most important - I need to know if you can play Minecraft in all its variations on various Apple products. MacBooks? iPads? What else? Any limitations with Apple?
#3 - Is there anything you can do to prevent viruses attacking while playing Minecraft on a PC?
#4 - Is there any risk of viruses on Apple products?
THANK YOU for any help you might be able to offer!!! It's greatly appreciated, and equally appreciated if folks wouldn't just speculate without actually knowing what they're talking about.

Hi pdq,
First, I'll say that no, i do not play Minecraft myself however I do play a lot of online games and I do have experience talking with folks that have caught viruses doing so.
My answer is the same that it's always been to these questions. Minecraft is a legit game from a legit company. You will not catch a virus from simply playing the game!!!! If a game company put a virus into their product, they would be out of business very quickly.
Most gamers catch viruses/keyloggers/hacks from outside sources. They decide to "cheat" the game and visit shady sites promising free gold, free bots, free cheats, unlimited LEET LOOT for whatever game you're playing. Or they're selling any of the above at a price. In most games, this is against the rules and will result in a banned account. I'm sure Minecraft is no exception.
Since these sites are "against the rules" they are run by shady folks to start with. Most are selling ingame loot that have been stolen from hacked accounts. They have no ethics against putting a keylogger on your computer in order to steal your game account.
Another possibility as well: Minecraft allows players to set up private minecraft servers and run copies of the game from their own private server. If your friend is connecting to a private server then I hope he knows the person running that server very well. Does he trust that person not to install a virus on his pc?

#1. Never, unless your java or flash isnt updated and you have an open port all the time.
#2. Apples should not be considered computers. I would avoid at all costs, unless you are a fool.
#3. Update java and flash player.
#4. Yes. It runs software, it can get viruses.
