I answer questions here when I'm bored. I mainly stay in the video games and gambling sections. Unfortunately both of these sections tend to have a lot of useless begging for free money and free games as well as a lot of scams. If you want to post a similiar question then you must first understand 3 things: 1. Strangers on the internet will not give you free money. 2. Beggars suck. Deal with it. 3. If you got an e-mail saying you've won a lot of money, it's a scam. I get "thumbs down" all the time for these answers. I guess the truth hurts.

  • Newbie Cook - Need help with oven temps?

Hi there. I'm trying to learn how to cook. I can make basic stuff (very basic stuff) and if someone smart hadn't invented microwaves I probably would have starved years ago.

Anyways I'm trying to change that and learn a little bit. I've stumbled upon a recipe for sausage quiche that sounds good and simple enough for me to try, but the recipe left out some details and I'd like some help with that.

This is a recipe for sausage quiche and it contains the stuff you'd think it contains - sausage, eggs, cheese, onions, corn, milk, etc and the recipe says to bake in the oven for 30 minutes. It doesn't say how hot to make the oven. Perhaps experienced cooks know this stuff and the person that wrote the recipe figured it didn't need to be said, but I'm a noob that can burn bacon and eggs in less than 30 seconds if left alone in the kitchen without a guide. However if i can follow instructions to the letter, my meal usually comes out edible.

Here's a link to the recipe. http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Breakfast/recipe?id=1049... Thanks for the help!

  • How Can I Surf Safely?

Ok, here's the deal. There's a website that I'd like to visit but I have a suspicion that it might contain malware. I'm savvy enough not to enter any personal info onto a site and I'd never download anything from them, however I know that nowadays sites can hijack a computer without the user even knowing just by visiting the site. What do I need to do to protect myself?

If it helps, I'm using Firefox (the latest version, I think) and I have Java disabled in the browser for now.

  • Voter registration question?

I have a question and hope some of the regulars here can point me in the right direction. A friend asked me about this yesterday and I don't know the answer but it got me curious.

My friend has a 17 year old brother that would like to vote in the upcoming Presidential election. The kid will turn 18 on November 6th (election day) and an 18 year old should be able to vote, but I know that you have to register a few months ahead of time. He went to a local library that offers voter registration and they turned him away. They said he cannot register until he is 18, but if he waits until he's 18 he'll miss the election.

So, how does that work? Can he vote this November or does he simply have to wait until he's older? Or did he just run into an uninformed registrar and needs to go back.

Please no rants or soapboxes for answers (Yeah, i've seen the usual fare in this section) or I'll just report.

  • Runescape - Some questions about beating Nomad?

Ok, so I'm trying to earn a quest cape and Nomad is the only quest left.

What armor should I wear? I currently have Black Dragonhide but would it be worth the time to try and complete a Void ranger set or Elite Void set and use that instead?

What weapon would be best? Currently i'm trying with ruby (e) and occasionally using diamond (e) bolts. Should I stick with ruby as my main damage or switch entirely to diamond (e)?

Or is there a different strategy entirely that you think would work better?

I'm still low level, at least as far as Nomad stats are concerned.

    Combat: 112

    Atk/Str/Def: 82

    Range: 84

    Magic: 83

    Prayer: 73

  • Runescape - Tzhaar Fight Caves?

I'm looking for some advice for the Tzhaar Fight Caves in Runescape. You know, that place where you fight Jad and earn a Fire Cape.

    My current levels are:

    attack/strength/defense - 77

    Constitution - 78

    Range - 74

    Magic - 78

    Prayer - 70

Now, I don't want to fight and beat Jad. I know I'm not ready for that yet. Instead, I'm just trying to finish up the Hard Karajma Tasks and to do that I have to kill the Tzhaar enemy that shows up on Wave 31. (don't remember the exact name)

I went in with a super-set, 2 prayer pots and the rest of inventory filled with food. I used Dragon armor with a whip and Dragon defender. I made it to Wave 31 and immediately turned on Reflect Magic prayer when the enemy appeared, but he killed me instantly with his melee attack. He hit me for 375 pts and again for another 375 before I could eat.

So, any advice? Should I use a different setup? I prefer melee to range or magic but if I need to switch then what would be the best weapon to use to beat Wave 31 without spending a fortune.

  • Online poker etiquette question?

I play Poker on Pokerstars occasionally and I have a question about etiquette rules. I was playing in a Sit-N-Go tourney last night and 2 guys at the table were chatting the whole time in Spanish. I don't speak Spanish and I felt uncomfortable being in a game where I couldn't understand what the other players were saying.

I know site rules for many places state that only English is allowed at the tables, but I don't think it's widely enforced and to be honest, Pokerstars has many international players so it seems kinda unfair to force a Spaniard or German to chat in a language they may not be fluent speaking.

I don't play poker online often and I only play for enjoyment. I'm not trying to get rich with poker, so I'm curious as to how the regular players here feel about table chat. What's proper etiquette?

This was a $1 entry tourney so no big deal and I didn't say anything to the chatters last night. Would you have a different answer for a tourney that cost $500 to enter rather than a micro stakes one?

And before you think this is simply sour grapes, I don't think the players were colluding. I think the conversation was simple chatting. With all the IM and voice chat programs out there, cheaters have much better ways to collude. (and I won the tourney)

  • Need a Basic Tutorial on Odds?

Ok, I've been hanging around this forum for a while and answering a lot of questions, but I'm more of a Poker gal than sports.

I'm in a casual office pool at work and I'm trying to fill out my NFL pick sheet so I tried to look up some odds on ESPN so that I'm making more than random guesses. However I just don't understand how to read the odds that are presented on most sites. Can someone knowledgable here explain how to read this:

    Minnesota @ New Orleans

    bodog.com SportsInteraction 5Dimes SBGGLOBAL

    Open Current Current Current Current

    51.5 O/U 48.5 O/U 48.0 O/U 48.0 O/U 48.0 O/U

    -4.5 -6 -6 -5 -5

So, what do all those fancy numbers mean? I don't really care about point spreads. I just wanna know who's favored to win.

  • Martingale System question?

I have a theoretical question and I'd like to get the opinion of some of the "regulars" in this forum.

In a nutshell, is there ever a situation where you think the Martingale system would be profitable?

Now, before you criticize, let me explain. The Martingale system is a betting system where you double up your bet each time you lose so that you "win" back all your previous losses. It sounds great in theory, but in the real world it fails spectacularly. I know there are no casinos in the world where this system would work. The casinos have constraints on betting limits that make it impossible. However, I'm talking just theory. I'm not gonna run out to a casino and try to use this.

Here's the scenario. You're placing a bet and if you win, you double your money. You're allowed to bet any amount from $1 to $10,000 and you are allowed to stay and bet for as long as you want. Your odds of winning your bet is actually 47% so there is a noticable house edge. You start with a bankroll of $20,000 and you bet $1, doubling when you lose and going back to $1 bets when you win.

Assume that if you lose the $20,000, you'd be sad but not devastated. Yes, winning $1 at a time isn't a good way to make money, but this is theory, not real world.

Under these circumstances, would you play? If not, what would you change to make it worth it?

And for those of you wondering about trying this, please note that I AM NOT recommending the Martingale system for any real gambling in any real casino.

  • Runescape Leveling Questions?

I started playing RS last week and so far I'm enjoying the game, but I have a lot to learn. I'm trying to concentrate on mining and Runecrafting but I think I really need to get my combat level up first. I've heard that I need a set of Runecrafting gloves from the Fist of Guthix to boost my Runecrafting but since I'm a low level noob, I have no hope of winning a duel there.

    2 questions.

First, whats the best option for getting my combat level raised to something competitive? Is it more efficient to keep pounding away on the level 2-5 monsters or attack something closer to my level?

    Current Stats:

    Combat overall: 20

    Attack: 18

    Strength and Defense: 15

    Range: 7

    Magic: 15ish (not sure)

    Prayer: 16

    Constitution: 21

Second, I'm really confused about armor and weapons. What armor is the best to get? I'm mainly fighting with magic and a sword (Silverlight sword from a quest). I use the fire attack spell when I can and switch over to the sword once I run out of runes. The heavy warrior style armor is good when wielding a sword but it hurts my magic. The magic robes help magic but don't protect me from that guard that's pounding away at me.

Should I have 2 sets of armor and constantly switch between them? I know inventory space is at a premium so I usually just pick something out of the bank and stick with it. What armor sets should I be working to eventually get and keep? (Non-member, only care about stats not style)

  • Runescape - Tips for a newbie?

Ok, I have guild wars but have been getting bored so I decided to give Runescape a try and I've been having a lot of fun playing it. Any advice for a beginner on what skills I should be concentrating on and trying to level?

I'm interested in mining and runecrafting and would like to get these 2 skills up to a high level as well as smithing. So far though I'm still low level. Here's my info.

    - Non-member. I probably won't become a member.

    - Mining is level 25.

    - Runecrafting level 13 and I've completed the Rune Mysteries quest

    - Combat level 14 (yeah, I die a lot)

    - Smithing level 31

Only been playing for 3 days so there is alot I don't know yet. I found the Runescape wiki and that has helped a lot. The one thing I'm struggling with is getting places. What's the best way to get around quickly? Any more options that will open up to me once I've been playing awhile?

  • How would you have played this - Texas Hold 'Em?

I was in a poker tournament last night and went out on only the 2nd hand. I'm not a great poker player but I'm not the worst either. So, for you experts out there, what should I have done differently (lol, other than not playing the hand at all) or did I play it correct and just got a bad beat?

I was on the button and dealt A4 offsuit.

About 5 people total had called the big blind and I called as well. No raises pre-flop.

    Flop is A 4 10 different suits.

Again about 5 or 6 folks are in the hand. The guy right before me gives a small raise and I call.

    Next card is a 5.

Everyone bets the blind until it gets to the same guy that raised before. He bets $750 which is about half his stack. I go All-in. Everyone drops out of the hand except the same guy. He turns over 44 which clearly beat my 2 pair.

    Any advice?

  • Pokerstars Freerolls?

Hi there. I've been lurking in the gambling section here for awhile. I read most of the questions and once in a while, answer a few. (Usually by the time I see the question, PDQ has already posted what I would have said)

One of the questions that I see repeated alot is "what is the the password to today's Freeroll on Pokerstars"?

I have an account on Pokerstars and play sit & go's and the occasional freeroll. I'm not a big time gambler, but this passworded freeroll sounds like fun. How do you find it? I looked under the Freeroll section last night and didn't see anything except some play money tourneys and 1 or 2 others that I wasn't interested in. The only ones that looked appealing were restricted. They didn't have passwords, they were simply closed unless you had a ticket for the tourney.

So, I know this is probably a lame question, but where should I be looking for this passworded freeroll of the day?

Now if anyone else has a sure fire way to win the lottery or roulette, I'm listening. (I'M Kidding!!!! I'm Kidding!!!)

  • Running an old Windows 3.1 game on Vista?

I tried running setup.exe in compatibility mode but even under all options, got the error "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running....."

I was able to run this game under XP, but since buying a new computer with Vista, it won't install. Any ideas?

  • Need to delete an item in Second Life?

Ok, I'll try this one more time. I asked this question a few weeks ago but didn't receive any helpful answers.

I received a "Shining Star" as a freebie prize in a hunt. I rezzed the star in my apartment thinking it was a box, but instead I got a star that flies around the apartment.

I've tried many times to delete it, but I can't. I've selected "Take", "Delete", "Return", etc from the menu and each time the star returns to my inventory and rezzes another copy of itself. I believe it has scripts in it which automatically replicate it when it's de-rezzed.

I've contacted the creater but he hasn't been much help. He's almost never online. The permissions on the star are no modify so I have not been able to delete the scripts.

I've asked for help ingame but everyone just assumes I'm stupid or a noob that doesn't understand how to return an object. They just explain how to select "Take" on the pie menu.

  • Having trouble deleting an object in Second Life?

Ok, I just finished a grid-wide hunt in Second Life and I received a lot of nice clothes, furniture, pictures, etc from the hunt. However I'm having a lot of trouble with one of the items I received.

It's called a Shining Star and I rezzed it in my apartment assuming it was box containing something. Instead I got a star that flies around the apartment. I haven't been able to de-rez it and I've tried every trick I know.

First the star is difficult to "grab" to edit since it flies around, but after a few tries I am able to snag it. I'll select "take" from the menu and it returns to my inventory, but immediately another copy of the star is generated and flies around. I've tried attaching it which stops it for a bit, but as soon as I delete or detach it flies around again.

I've tried contacting the creator with no response and I've had a few friends with more SL experience than me over to the apartment and they've had no luck either. So I figured I'd throw the question out here and see if anyone else has some suggestions I haven't tried yet.

  • Contacting Second Life friends while offline?

Sigh, it's been a bad weekend. Really bad.

My house was hit by lightning. Everyone's fine and the house survived intact.....the computer on the other hand is gone permanently.

I'm currently up and running at the office and I have an older computer that allows me to get on the net and do basic stuff online (like dial into the office) however it won't run Second Life.

I've made friends in Second Life and I'm renting an apartment in there as well. Is there anyway I can contact them without actually running the game to at least let them know what happened and I'll be away for a few weeks? Of course I don't know their real names or e-mails.

  • How do you unlink prims in Second Life?

Here's what I'm trying to do. I bought a hairstyle in Second Life which I really like, but it has 2 prims which hang down in my eyes that I'd like to delete altogether.

I have full edit permissions on the hairstyle. I know how to edit individual prims, but haven't figured out how to unlink them and delete them.
