How do you unlink prims in Second Life?

Here's what I'm trying to do. I bought a hairstyle in Second Life which I really like, but it has 2 prims which hang down in my eyes that I'd like to delete altogether.

I have full edit permissions on the hairstyle. I know how to edit individual prims, but haven't figured out how to unlink them and delete them.

Hold down the left mouse button and highlight the hair piece (while it's not attached to you) and click on Tools>Unlink then delete the prims, highlight it again and click Tools>link. Make sure you have a copy of the original first though!

You need to be careful unlinking all the prims in hair as relinking them all can be a real pain. My suggestion is harder to describe, but it will save you a lot of trouble later on.

First of all, make a copy of the hair and use that for your adjustments.

Drag the copy of hair onto the ground. Right click on it at select edit. Now use the direction arrows to lift it up high enough to get a good, all-round view of the hair. If you hold down Ctrl, Alt and the left mouse button, you can move your view around the hair. Clicking and holding on the hair while holding Ctrl and Alt allows you to centre on the hair Holding Alt and the left mouse button allows you to move the mouse up and down to zoom in and out of the hair.

In Edit mode, click on the 'Edit Linked Parts' option. Now left click on the prim you want to get rid of. You will see that this is now the only prim highlighted. Use the Move (directional arrows on the prim) to drag it away from the main body of hair. This will prevent you from accidentally unlinking or deleting the wrong part.

Now - with that single prim still being the only highlighted prim - open the Tools menu from the top menu bar. Look down the list and you will see the 'unlink' option. Click this.

You will now notice that the prim has changed from having a blue border to a yellow border. This means it's now what is known as a root prim (in this case, the only prim in this build). If you are unsure of this, click on the main body of hair and you will see that the prims there have blue borders, but one has a yellow border. Click back on your unlinked prim and that will be yellow.

What you have done is you have taken this one prim and unlinked it from the rest of the hair, but the remaining prims are still linked together.

You can now right click on the unlinked prim, select more and then delete it.

Repeat this process to remove the other prim you don't like.

If you feel you are getting lost with this, send me a message via Yahoo Answers and I will show you how to do it in SL. I actually did something similar myself yesterday with a hairstyle that had pre-windlight invisi-prim facelights built into the hair and was making my avatar's face a blinding white beacon.

suitable click and edit the 1st piece, carry shift and click the piece you opt to link to it then flow as much as the techniques drop down container and opt to link it. the two products could now be locked at the same time.
