How do I get my friends to stop lying?
Okay, so I have multiple friends that do this, and I'm not going to single anyone out because they all have great qualities too. But this has been happening for years, and I am so sick of it. These people will say that can do something, I know they can't do, say they can't do something I know they can do. They will say they have better grades than they do, and/or pretend they don't care. They are often times fishing for compliments by pretending they are bad at something/ or insecure about something. I know a big part of that is self esteem. I get upset because I am proud of something, an they have to one up me like they can do it better. Then they can't do whatever they said when asked. Which is stupid because they all have plenty of things they are better at than I am! And often they are better at whatever they said they were!
Please don't say anything like they aren't truly your friends because they are amazing friends! (At least some of them, because a bunch of people do this.)

You can't. Lying is a psychological problem to which you cannot do a thing for except be sick enough of it to find other friends that don't lie. Even if u point out they are lying, many liars BELIEVE thier own lies and thus it becomes truth for them. It's a no winning battle. I dated 2 manipulative liars... One for 7yrs and another for 3yrs.
They can't stop it. And some actually enjoy making others believe lies. They get a thrill from it and enjoy your gullibleness to whatever they feel like lying about at that moment.
Some lie with almost everything but the name on their birth certificate, granted they haven't figured out how to obtain a phoney one. Phoney Baloney' I call them. You can't change them. They will lie about wanting to do that and trying to change. They won't do anything but man.... Is it ever hard not to believe them with the sincerity they can project. It's intense. Get away from them ASAP. If they lie to you, they don't respect you enough to be honest. Period.
