I have a question about army OCS?

Hi everyone

I'm really confused and disapointed. I want to go to army OCS and recently been told that its getting to be impossible is this true? Here's my deal....I'm almost 28 years old and have a 4 year degree from Marquette University. I graduated with a 3.3 but I had a 3.7 until i got 2 F's in my final year after a car accident and i missed alot of class. Do you think this will be an acceptable excuse?!! I had a 3.9 for 3 semesters in the middle so it shows I have potential, but I defintely had problems at the end due to my accident and coasted into graduation. I went to law school for a year and dropped out because I hated it and started my own business for the last 2 years. I can get a 300 on the PT and I got in the 99th percentile in my SAT. I do a decent enough job at volunteering so does anyone think my chances are decent or should I not even bother applying?

PS I have no tats, drug use, or criminal convictions so i dont need waivers if you're wondering

If you don't apply, the answer is most certain a no. If you apply and get accepted, then fantastic. If you don't get accepted it still sounds like you have a bright future in front of you and you will excel at what you do. They don't put you in front of a firing squad for trying.

Your GPA might be a problem. But with extenuating circumstances, they might take that into consideration. No one here is on the selection panel so no one can answer with 100% certainty you are going to make it or you won't make it. So go for it!!!! Best of luck.

No retained injuries or hardware from the accident?? You should be fine to apply.

If you don't apply you stand a zero percent chance

That being said...OCS selection rates right now are hovering anywhere between 12-15% for all qualified applicants

And you can only expect that to get worse in the next few years

OCS is a "fill the gap" program. The primary source for Army Officers is USMA (West Point) and ROTC. The Army knows how many USMA grads they will have every year which is a pretty steady constant. ROTC varies greatly year by year.

So if the Army needs 3000 new Officers next year...they know that USMA will provide roughly 1100, and lets say ROTC provides 1500...they will only run enough OCS classes to make up the remaining 400.

at 28 you are too old for a commission in most Branches and fields. The Navy will consider you til 32 for Restricted Line however a sub 3.5 GPA hurts. if it is in a non STEM degree, it hurts more.

the car accident and any residual issues may also keep you form passing the necessary physical.

even for stellar candidates that have all the right boxes checked and al the right qualifications, selection rates are under 20%.. and in many cases closer to 10%.

all colleges will waive or suspend failing gardes due to legitimate medical need such as a car accident severe enough to put you in the hospital.
