Am I the only one who thinks 'selfie' should've been spelled 'cellfie'?

Way back when I first heard the term and what it was being used for, I assumed it was 'cellfie' because you're using your CELL phone to take a picture of yourself.

I think it would have been so much more creative and a great play on words if it were spelled 'cellfie' instead of 'selfie'.

Anybody else ever think this?

Just curious.

But you can take a selfie without a phone, like using a camera. The spelling fits its meaning, "self"ie

believe it or not when a person gets an idea then many others across the globe get the same idea and that's why when you think of something that sells then you copyright it or trademark it proving you were the first to get it down on paper.

My suggestion was "lafie" since my selfie was taken with my laptop in 2008.

Selfie is because it's taken of your"self".

I thought that selfie was spelled selfy. I don't know, I just thought it made more sense. I don't agree with you though, because sure your using a cell phone usually, but its of yourself.

No, because you're taking a picture specifically of yourSELF, and you don't even have to use a cell phone for it. Plus you can use a cell phone to take pictures of anything. So "cellfie" wouldn't even really mean anything to someone who wasn't already familiar with the term.
