Christians, why do you still believe?

The only reasons anyone ever believes something is either when they see evidence and believe it to make sense, or when they simply want to believe and will do anything, even lie to themselves, to maintain that belief?

So did you guys actually consider that you could be wrong, examine the evidence, and seriously think that the magic man in the sky was the most compelling argument, or did you just never question your belief because you know it's so weak that you're afraid to challenge it?

Update:

@Jared- Oh I know, you're absolutely right, it's more about proving a point to them internally than actually getting a reaction.

Update 2:

@LICKmikehunt- Please don't make me pull out the classic Flying Spaghetti Monster or unicorn argument- God is unfalsifiable and you know it.

Update 3:

@jojojubi- your analogy is inaccurate; you didn't grow up, realize that 2 2 probably equals 5, yet still believe because of that same "faith" you had as a child.

Update 4:

@motivational_raven - Care to elaborate? What evidence?

Update 5:

@Oleg- How does this prove the existence of God? I find the teachings of Aristotle to be beneficial, does that prove God? If I gave leprechauns a moral crusade to take up as their agenda would that make them real?

Update 6:

Bronze Age texts about magic don't count as evidence by the way, sorry.

You realize that the only responses you are going to get are people that say they did seek evidence and found Christianity to be true, right?

No Christian is going to come on here and say: hey you are right, I never thought about that, maybe I should question my belief. Nobody like that is going to answer the question.

For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life. Matthews 25:46

Actually consider being wrong? Sure, plenty of times. Seriously think that God was the most compelling argument? Yes I did.

Afraid to challenge it? At first, given the scriptures in the Bible saying the 'consequences' of such things. But then I realized my place here isn't some selfish notion of living for myself and acting with some moral standard just so long as I can receive some 'reward' after death.

That if God WAS merciful and all that good stuff I wouldn't succumb to punishments based off of things that come naturally to me...at least on the spectrum. So I had that 'enlightenment' that most of you atheist folks came to the conclusion to; except I didn't just out rightly deny the existence of God.

I have my reasons in believing in God; reasons I know are rather evidence worthy to convince me. I have my intuitions of WHY God wouldn't just relieve the ongoing and painfully stupid debate over his existence...I figure since everything relates...the politics, secrets, and dealings we have with our governments and social standards of living correlate with the politics, secrets and dealings of God and its existence with life; the most genuine truths are the ones without obligation, favoritism, or ambiguity.

You're right, folks believe something via evidence that makes sense, or belief something to make themselves cope with life.

But see MANY folks believe in God via evidence of it that makes sense to them. Just like you probably believe the justice system works or scientist's theories are FACTS just because they make sense to you.

People still think Alexander Graham Bell is the 'creator' of the light bulb like Steve Jobs was the 'savior' of Apple....you dig into the truth behind all that and find that really isn't the case, but because of perception it became believable.

Fact is, there IS no absolute truths, EVERYTHING can be questioned, so to make such concrete statements of THERE is a God, or there ISN'T a God is a biased OPINION that while both my have plausible evidence, isn't FACT.

There is God but it may not be what people define God as, or at least the motives. There may not be a God....or again at least not the definition defined by Christians....the answer is as elusive as dark matter.

And that's the point, discovery and truths have yet to reveal MANY theories, situations, inventions in our existence to say they DONT' exist....or that they do.

People aren't wrong for believing in things that OTHERS may find 'delusional' or 'silly'. People thought a lot of things that were 'silly' or 'delusional' and with time, discovery, and evidence those people weren't so 'delusional' now.

So to think biasely of a concept that has yet to have ANYTHING truly concrete to prove any conclusion is like saying you KNOW you can pay a dollar into the lottery and WIN because you just KNOW the odds are for you. Which you aren't necessarily WRONG, but you most certainly aren't RIGHT. Get the idea? Probably not but meh....I got my 2 points.

    my 2 cents.

Believing in God for example, is a human desire, to justify living upon this earth.

It is of an intimate nature. Does not interfere with Nature. Not on the day with others. Except with the fanatics who want to force you to make them part of Paradise.

On the other hand, there is people who do not care about the idea because they are living here on this planet. If you have food, drink, and sex, is enough.

These people are the same as those fanatics who want to take you to Paradise.

The hardness of those who believe in One God, is to deal with these two radical groups. When it is not one, it's another.

"The only reasons anyone ever believes something is either when they see evidence and believe it to make sense" Bingo right there. I have examined the evidence myself , it makes total sense, and I do believe it. Is that hard for you to understand? When I was a child, teacher taught me that 2+2 equals four. I accepted it on faith as a child, without completely understanding the proof. Later as an adult, I was able to logically prove to my mind that without a doubt, 2+2 equals four, and I still believe that without a doubt today. No one can convince me otherwise, telling me I have no proof, because it has been proven to me. That's exactly what my faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is like. You need to figure out what 2+2 equals to satisfy your own doubts and questions, no one else can prove it to you.

If you don't get on an airplane then you will never know what it is like!

If you have never experienced something- that does not mean it does not exist.

Once you have experienced something then no amount of scoffing or scoffers can take it away from you, it remains part of your experience.

I can safely say you have never experienced the spiritual- therefore you have no basis except ignorance for your stand.

    Now ignorance can be cured!

Lets, I legitametly came to start questioning about God it college. Honestly what got my attention was the universe, like stars, the vastness of space and science. I used to walk around my campus at like 1am after studying just me and the stars and look up and realize how big everything is and how tiny we are. I was also a biology major and saw so many "crazy" things that fit into place, worked in nature or coincidences that enable life.

I later had someone bring me to a bible study on campus and I started talking faith seriously and examining it and myself. I think inside, seeing all this I knew there was a God just didnt know anything about Him or how real or relevant he was. Anyways began just spending time everyday reading the bible, studying faith stuff alone and it kept growing, I started just giving the best part of my day to seek out God, spent 1-2 hours in wee hours just walking around campus me and the universe thinking about God, life and seeking Him.

Just spending time alone, quiet time seeking Him I started feeling him, felt like I was learning, like this Jesus guy was literally coming alive and I had this unexplanable peace and joy. I then accepted chrsitianity but didnt really have a firm faith until a few years later.

Fast forward, I really began seeking God and following him personally and not what my church said whatever and crazy stuff started happening. Started feeling his presence, and learning about who he really was and how close he really was. What reality really was, as he kind of defines that and removing the old structures and thought beliefs I was believing on through growing up and school/peer/culture. The deeper I drew to God and humbled myself of religiousness and just purely sought him, he started showing up, tangibly. That was a few years. I used to think anyone who even raised their hands in church was apart of a cult. Weirdos. Now I've literally seen people healed by his spirit: a 19 yo girl with scoliosis from birth, my friends broken leg that was shorter and mishealed from a factory accident etc etc but mainly just literally knowing him through his Spirit. Hearing his voice. Feeling his presence. Knowing he actually knows me and knowing his emotions. People take that as arrogant that I know God, can talk to him and feel him, that I know the answer to the question "Why" but its not. God is personal and his main desire is to have a people voluntarily draw close to Him and want to be with him. Its not about theology as it is people actually hungry for encoutering God and being near him. He doesn't force anyone to and if you simply go along with the vanity of the culture and age we're in and deny seeking him sincerely and personally (not religiously or in debates) than you cannot know him. He's really not that complicated. He created all things but his main focus is on your heart and experience his affections for you. However lesser desires, business, addictions etc try to fill that hole and void of being loved and accepted by the Father that most miss him and dont humble themselves to be near him in his persence in teh quiet place in their life.

Would my being "wrong" make you right? Would my ideas being "false" make your ideas automatically true?

I don't deal in arguments but in relationships. To quote the man in Acts: "Jesus I know, and I've heard about Paul--but who are You?"

Why not?.I don't need evidence. That's why it's called belief duh.I got a lot of questions to my religion and it always got the anwser.
