Are there any Satanists, really? If there are, are there more than a dozen? Please give references.?

I keep seeing questions here about people who "hate God" or "worship Satan". Some decades back I heard of Anton LaVey and his Satanic Church, but I never heard of him getting more than a handful of followers. I suspect that these days Satanists are just an "urban legend", a story that is passed around among fanatic Christians who figure it MUST be true. Can anyone point me to some evidence of contemporary Satanists, plural, who number more than a handful?

LaVeyan Satanism is actually nothing more than a bunch of Atheists who use satanic-style symbolism for things. There probably aren't that many of them, but I've met a few throughout my life. Some in California, some in Washington/Oregon.

People who actually "worship" Satan are much rarer. There's some stupid kids out there who try to summon a demon now and then, or do something with Satan in their more rebellious phases. But actual honest to god "Devil Worship" is rare, and all cases of "Satanic Ritual Abuse" have never been proven. Several people who were accused and imprisoned under accusations in the 80s of commiting such, were recently released as it was discovered that all evidence had been fabricated to boost some congressman's career or something.

Meh, maybe a bakers dozen, but they are all actually atheists.
