  • Are there any Satanists, really? If there are, are there more than a dozen? Please give references.?

I keep seeing questions here about people who "hate God" or "worship Satan". Some decades back I heard of Anton LaVey and his Satanic Church, but I never heard of him getting more than a handful of followers. I suspect that these days Satanists are just an "urban legend", a story that is passed around among fanatic Christians who figure it MUST be true. Can anyone point me to some evidence of contemporary Satanists, plural, who number more than a handful?

  • Oil light on when I idle?

I have a 2004 Chevy Aveo hatchback, roughly 50000 miles on it. I got my oil changed at a Snappy-Lube in July, and noticed that my oil light came on when my engine was idling, went off when I put it in gear and gave it some gas. Annoying, but didn't seem worth worrying about. I checked the oil, found that even after sitting cold, the level was above the "max" line on the dipstick. Looked up "oil level too full", found that too much oil could cause damage. One hot day driving on the bypass (65 MPH) the oil light stayed on, so I went directly to the Snappy-Lube and asked them to take some out. They did that, got the level down to between Min and Max, about 3/4 to Max. They said the problem was more likely that the sensor was going bad, not that the level was too full. I asked another mechanic, he suspected my oil filter might be bad- oil filters have a "check valve" built in, and in his experience, the filters you get from quick-lube places are cheap, about one percent are bad, the check valves don't work.

At any rate, since the oil level was reduced to within proper bounds, the oil light comes on less often. Only when I idle, and only after the engine has warmed up. (The weather has been cooler, might be affecting the engine temp near startup.) Sometimes I can do my commute without seeing it at all. But sometimes it still comes on when I'm waiting at a stoplight or something. Any comments, diagnoses, advice?

  • Christians: is "faith-based" an insult or a compliment?

I want to ask, when you say that Evolution is based on faith, is that supposed to be an insult or a compliment? Are you saying, Evolution is as good and true as religion because it is based on faith, or that evolution is just as worthless as religion because it is based on faith?

I've heard some Christians argue that "it takes more faith to believe in atheism than in God"; the same question applies. If Faith is a good way of knowing what's true, then it should work just as well for everyone; if it's not, then why do you depend on it?

Verizon phone company offering high-speed Internet, special modem, system requirements for MacIntosh include 10/100 network card. I have Emac, G4, Built-in Ethernet and Firewire, But I find in System Profile no mention of 10/100 card. Anybody know if 10/100 is part of Ethernet or Firewire?
