Before Everyone Got So Wound Up In The Comments of Pope Francis...Did They Stop To Realize...?
...that the core of Catholicism...it's dogma and policies if you will...are still the same. Yes, the Pope believes that we should be more focused on loving one another and helping the poor where possible. Yet, he has been on public record as saying that abortion is still unacceptable to the Church and that will never change. And, the stance on homosexuality and same-sex marriage (I personally have no dog in this fight) are still the same as well and that it goes against the teachings of the Church.
Ultimately, he is saying that it is our responsibility to take care of each other and love each other, but God will make the final call on our Judgment Day on whether we're going to be welcomed into Heaven. Makes sense to me. Yet, you have people that are calling the Pope Communist, soft, etc...because either A) They didn't bother to read or see the whole message or B) the hatred many of them already have for Catholicism (yes, there is a lot of blind, unadulterated hatred of Catholicism even from the many conservative talking heads that are evangelical Christians).
And if anyone questions...I'm an unapologetic conservative and have questions on things the Catholic Church has done or not done (such as I want priests that molested children to be held accountable and defrocked). Yet, what's wrong with loving each other and respecting one another and letting God decide what happens in eternity?

I believe that for the past decade there have been so much negativity in the world that people are longing for a message of peace, love and caring. Pope Francis happened to come along at the right time, when nothing good seems to happening.
People have lost faith in their leaders and this makes us feel insecure about the future. We have learned that we can no longer trust those who are in charge of our government. Religion has become a big money making machine that seems to want to take control of our government. We haven't seen anything good, loving or caring come from either source, religion or government... just corruption, greed, sexual abuse of children, attacks against women, and lies. As a result many of us have turned our backs on religion. I no longer believe in organized religion. I want to believe in Heaven and all of the good things that I was taught in Sunday school however, I am just not seeing any of that it in the real world. The more educated I became the more agnostic I became.
Having said that, I feel myself gravitating toward Pope Francis because of his positive message of peace and love. I believe he is sincere. I do believe that people should take care of each other and help those who are unable to care for themselves. I believe that people, their health and happiness are more important than money. If Heaven exists, I also believe that is the only way to get into heaven. I don't believe that anyone can live a life of greed, sin, and debauchery, just to be absolved and forgiven on your death bed and get into Heaven.
In addition, I believe that the only way for the Catholic church to recover from their scandal, involving the pedophile priest cover-up, is to change their dogmata, and allow parish priests to marry. The world is changing and Religion needs to keep up if they want to survive. That doesn't mean changing their views on abortion.
