What are the chances of surviving?

So I'm writing a story and one of my characters is going to be shot at point blank range with either a 9mm or 357 magnum. What are the chances if her surviving from any of these shots:

Lower abdomen

Middle chest

Stomach

And how much would they change if she was wearing a bulletproof vest

It all depends. For example a shot in the arm that severs an artery could have a person bleed to death (2.5 liters+) in 3 minutes.

I've heard of a violent felons on drugs surviving more than 12 shots to the center mass.

There is no definite answer to your question. There are just too many variables. I have seen people survive numerous shots (9!) to the body, and people die from single shots to the abdomen with a .25 Auto popgun. You'd think a brain shot would be fatal as well, but I've seen several of those survive too.

The chest shot, from either weapon, would be the most likely to cause death. Throwing a vest into the mix lessens the chance of death quite a bit, but anything is possible.

The single most important variable, providing the shot is not instantly fatal, is how long it takes to get to a trauma center. Without medical care, you are probably going to die from any of those eventually. A shot that penetrates the stomach is a killer without immediate medical attention, and quite possible even then. That is what caused the death of the person shot with a .25 auto...

With most 9mm & 357 rounds and the most common police bullet resistant vest Level IIa the chance of survival is about 95%. No full penetration but lots of shock to the body, Major bruising and cracked ribs are common. What happens but is uncommon is major internal bleeding, ruptured aorta and ruptured spleen that can cause death, both fast and slow.

No vest middle chest has the best chance of death, fairly quickly.

Lots of stuff that can be hit inside, fairly crowded together.

Stomach and lower abs have little that would cause immediate death and with lots of space between.

That, if course, depends on the availability of modern medical care.
