My tablet kindle suddenly wants a password but I don't have wi-fi?

I use my tablet mainly for reading, as I don't have wi-fi. I went to my parents to download an app, and now at home I want to read and it asks for a password! There are no books, just a button "Start reading", and when I press it, it says to check my connection.

What do I do? I use it on the road to, and I have only one computer with a modem, so installing wi-fi in my house is not really an option.

Update:

the thing is my neighbors don't have, one does but it is password protected, so i don't get on. the only person who touched it except me was my mom, but she wouldn't know how to do that, plus why would she? i'm almost 30 years old...

Can you get to the menus and turn off Wifi? Sounds like it may be trying to connect to your neighbor's Wifi.

Either that or is there any who, as a joke, would have set a passcode or parental control to use any functions of the tablet?
