Generalist Education versus Specialist Education (long sorry)???

I really don't buy into the whole "specialization," aspect of college/life. Yes, it makes us very proficient in a certain field (more than a generalist usually) but doesn't it also make it difficult for us to think in different ways, especially in the later years?

I'm currently an Economics major in college but I have:

- Taken all of the hardest math classes my school has to offer (It's a stem school)

- Am taking computer science classes currently (coding seems to be more important every year)

- Am trying to take the hardest chemistry and organic chemistry classes my school has to offer (with MUCH criticism at my back from friends, family and academic advisers).

Will I regret these decisions?

I know I can not, but I want to learn everything and understand everything.

Does anyone feel the same way?

The computer science and economics classes can be be learned on your own away from college using the internet or librarues. Stanford, Khan Acadamey, Berkeley, Harvard and many others offer free lectures online. Degrees are not necessary if it is just for personal enrichment. Fortunately for you the knowlege you have attained thus far can be easily parlayed into other fields such as engineering and the like.
