When do you become "good" at singing?
So... I started singing 2 years ago, I'm 19 now and I'm in majoring in musical theatre. When I perform on stage it's such a great experience, but lately I've been getting very depressed with the shows I've been in. This is because of my voice. This year was the first time I've ever had a singing coach, and I take lessons with him every week and I can tell there has definitely been an improvement. I ended up placing 2nd in a highly competitive and prestigious musical theatre singing competition. I've been awarded the opportunity to travel to California, where I'll get free housing, food, etc. This was because I was a lead role in a musical at my college and I received superior scores from a judge that attended our show.
Obviously, people have told me I'm a good singer as well but for some reason.. I'm still having trouble believing them. My voice quality is a tenor but my range is more of a baritone (E2-F4).. When I vision success I see me with a wider range than that and a lot more control and overall my own personal sound. Right now, my voice is still very hard to control, I don't have anything unique about my voice (like compared to other singers, nothing really stands out about my voice, it's just an average "male" sound), and I want my range to be E2 (or lower) to like a nice C5 belt with a wider range in head voice/falsetto.
I'm in a youth theatre production at the moment and literally all these kids who are 14 through 17 years old already have what I want to accomplish. It really takes a blow at my confidence, they're also better dancers than me. I used to be really good but I ended up injuring myself and it's been a year since I've gotten back into dancing....
Anyway, I'm sorry this is long, but I've been trying to think of other jobs/majors that I could try out but ... The thought of it kills me, I WANT to perform I want to be on National Tours or Broadway stages, or simple community theatres that have good paying jobs...
So, I'm curious for you more experienced singers (and I'm praying ONE of you read this).. How long did it take till you gained everything I desire? Control, Technique, and having that "you" sound that makes your voice so different from everyone else. Please help.

To me it sounds like you're one of those people who will never think they're good enough, and as long as you can keep your confidence up, that's a good thing.

Singing is an art so there's not one "good" but many. Obviously if you sound like a dying cat you're not good, but when you find your unique style and you like how it sounds and other people do too, then you're good :)

There are many top performers, who are never satisfied with their voice. There are others who think that they are better than anyone else. I prefer the first.
